IC3 JUNIOR TRAINING RIDES BEGIN FOR THE 2009 SEASON

March 1, 2009 (Lakewood, CO) - It was a great day for cycling and there were so many cyclists out enjoying the warm Colorado weather that it seemed as if the ants had been unleashed from the ant hills! The streets, bike paths, and parks were crawling with cyclists!
Some of the mighty IC3 Junior cyclists took advantage of the new perfect day. The group included Jessica, Trevor, Scott, Alex, Reilly, Daniel, and Sebastian. The Parents/Coach/Cheerleader along for the leading of this promising Junior team were Dan, Hal, Jim, Mike, and Cheryl.

Once again people took notice as the mighty cyclists wearing the colorful IC3 jerseys rode in a tight pace line along Kipling, Morrison Road and into Bear Creek Lake Park in the Lakewood area. When the group stopped at the Skunk Hollow picnic area in Bear Lake Park, there was another group of junior riders from the RMCEF club. We weren’t the only club thinking of “training ride” on this sunny Sunday!

Coach Mike was encouraged to see that foundational bike handling skills and rules of the road had not been forgotten from last year. A two lap “quick crit” in the park proved to be fun. Cheerleader Cheryl (always the caboose) was encouraged as she passed a few juniors occasionally and even led a pace line!

We learned that these training rides are a great way to publicize IC3. The sight of a well disciplined group of Juniors out riding sparks many double-takes and interested inquiries about the club.

In Bear Creek Lake Park we met a mom and her son, Josh, who were interested in the club. Josh had just built up a new bike with his dad a few days earlier and was quite proud of it. He also enthusiastically inquired, "Do you do races?" His eyes were as big as saucers when we replied YES and mentioned mountain biking, cyclocross, as well as road racing. We hope his mom remembers IC3’s website address and looks us up. We regretted not having the fancy IC3 business cards to distribute but will have them for future rides.

Our second regret for the day was the fact that we had no digital camera to take a few good photos to include with this news flash. Just picture a hairpin curve with the group of 12 riders winding up the hill through the turn. If you are an IC3 Junior (parent of a Junior or other IC3 member) and would like to join us, please contact Coach Mike at omegaediting@juno.com to learn the time and location of our next ride. Come join us for training, camaraderie, and fun!

Calling all Juniors

Purposeful Pedal'rs: (From Josh Taylor)

KEEP IN MIND YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE AT THE EVENT TO PARTICIPATE!!!

To support the effort of Pedal 4A Purpose folks go out to their friends, family and co-workers and ask for donations to the cause. This is all done from your personal webpage at www.pedal4Apurpose.kintera.org once you register. Your contacts make direct contributions to your webpage.

Why?

1) Because you believe in the work of Missions Ministries and the International Christian Cycling Club, and
2) You would like to win a new bike, or plane tickets (that are as valuable as Gold now), or many other great prizes (see attachment).

For each $500 you raise you get a ticket in the raffle. The more money you raise the more chances you have to win a prize!!

Not only that, but each $250 you raise you receive $20 of gift certificates to Wheatridge Cyclery. And again, you do not need to be at the event to qualify.

Rock The River Road Race

Wednesday, June 11, 2008

Congratulations!

We had two junior men participate in the State Time Trial Championships on Saturday. Well done to both Nick and Gage. And congratulations to Gage who was fourth that day. On Sunday, Sebastian and Christopher braved the cold, wind and mountain climb of Mike Horgan. They were awesome!

We'll see you all at practice on Wednesday evening. For those of you who are racing at Western Slope this weekend, many blessings. Tom, Bruce and Lisa Renee will all be there to support the kids who are racing.

Western Slopes RR and Crit

Hi team and coaches,

We are planning to have our first team practice next Wednesday, June 4th from 6:00-7:30PM. It will be in Highlands Ranch and I will send the location before then. The weather is a factor and I don’t want to be caught outside if it is raining. Look for an e-mail with a map on Monday or Tuesday.

Blacksheep Cycling sent the following e-mail about rooms in Glenwood Springs for the Glenwood Road Race and Crit on June 14 and 15. There is an opportunity to stay in less expensive rooms at a local college. This is a Tom Danielson series race and anybody interested is welcome to go. Unfortunately, I am out of town at a family event, so will not be able to attend. If you are planning to go, please let me know. As well, if you are interested in the accommodations, we need to let Karen know by June 3.

See you soon and God bless your day!

City Park Crit

Good luck to all our Juniors who will race at the City Park Crit. This is a great event with crowds to cheer the Juniors on and the opportunity to see the entire race course from the start/finish line. Have fun and be blessed!
